About The Howard Davis and The Cape Windjammers
The Cape Windjammers is a non-profit organisation, providing off-shore sail training that develops life and leadership skills, and environmental awareness for South Africans aged 16 to 25. The programme targets youth from all social and cultural backgrounds, and works in cooperation with local schools and civil society organisations.
During each programme of a few days, the Cape Windjammers are privileged to join the crew of the Howard Davis, which operates from the V & A Waterfront. During this time they learn to sail the boat and are responsible for all chores and duties on the ship, from cooking in the galley to cleaning the heads. They also learn about the environment around them.
Ricoh and the Howard Davis
Ricoh is the main sponsor of the Howard Davis and was recently involved in the prizegiving for the children who completed the last programme. The Ricoh logo is visible on the sails, jackets and sail covers and we are privileged to use the boat for client days, team building and launches. The vessel is available to the public for cruises 3 times a day.
It has been a great privilege to contribute to the success of this new training programme that should grow by popular demand in the next few years.
