Our environmental philosophy, which traces deep roots back to 1936, has resulted in the Group exceeding European legislation. Our many achievements include a profit contribution of $1.266 billion resulting from combined environmental activities between 2000 and 2008, and a carbon footprint reduction of 45,000 tonnes since 2007. We aim to reduce our environmental impact by 88% by 2050, compared to 2000.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
The WEEE regulations require the weight of products put onto the market to be strictly measured, and all minimum recycling requirements to be met. We ensure that no machine waste ends in landfill and product parts are reused in our refurbishment programs wherever possible.
Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
Electrical and electronic equipment must not be put onto the market if they contain six key hazardous substances as defined in these regulations. In prioritising the health and safety of our customers and employees, Ricoh not only ensure that all of our products comply with RoHS but we have additionally banned a further six substances not currently covered.
Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)
This requires the registration and management of all chemical substances used in business. However, we have taken this a step further; creating a strict Chemical Substance Management System that extends throughout our supply chain.
The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations
Companies must detail the extent of their recycling activities and we strictly adhere to these packaging regulations, providing evidence of our recovery and recycling achievements annually.
